Conifer Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Conifer Chamber of Commerce Meeting Recap – October 10, 2024

The October Conifer Chamber meeting covered various important updates from the local government, community events, and business opportunities.

Report from Jeffco County Commissioners

State Senator Lisa Cutter recently participated in a day-long roundtable with the Wildfire Matters Review Committee, where they discussed critical wildfire issues affecting the area.

Jefferson County Public Health has introduced a mobile healthcare van to improve access in mountain areas and announced the hiring of a new Mountain Liaison for public health. The top public health priorities identified in the mountain region include mental and behavioral health, economic stability, and the impact of climate change on health, such as air quality and wildfire risks.

Additionally, the TABOR (Taxpayer Bill of Rights) adjustments have caused budget reductions in Jefferson County. Commissioners are seeking community feedback on how to allocate resources. You can share your input here: Jeffco Budget Participation.

The county also expressed a growing need for more slash collection sites due to the increased destruction caused by the pine beetle and emerald ash borer.

Election Day News

Election Day is fast approaching on Tuesday, November 5. Mail-in ballots will be sent out starting Friday, October 11. If you do not receive yours by early next week, contact the Jeffco Board of Elections for assistance. Track your ballot’s progress using Ballot Trax: Ballot Trax Colorado.

US Representative Brittany Pettersen’s Office Update

David Clark, representing Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen, shared exciting news about new satellite technology being used to help identify wildfires more quickly. He also encouraged constituents to reach out to the Congresswoman’s office for assistance with federal government agencies, such as the IRS or Social Security.

Networking Fun

While there was no formal speaker, the meeting concluded with a lively game of Networking Bingo, where attendees exchanged business cards and connected with one another. The fun, fast-paced game encouraged engagement and even gave everyone ideas on how to adapt it for other events, like Mountain Women in Business mixers!

Overall, it was a productive and engaging meeting with useful information for both business owners and community members. Keep an eye out for upcoming events and opportunities!
